weekend webcam

Hello everyone! I hope you had a good weekend! I’m feeling relaxed and ready to get back to the norm. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s been leaving comments for me. They’re so nice to read!

I already got results from some my exams/papers from last week and good news, the hard work paid off! So far this semester has been going really well. Since I haven’t been working, I feel that there isn’t any reason to procrastinate doing coursework and studying. (Haha, I’m sure my parents, who read the blog, are shaking their heads thinking “Tsk, no procrastinating Alissa! School is your first priority!”)

I spent last night glued to the television. Well mostly, I did clean the house and make time to run. But the NBA games yesterday were top notch. It was OKC Thunder/LA Lakers and MIA Heat/NY Knicks. Since the All Star game for some reason I can’t wait for the Finals! Then we tuned in for the Academy Awards and the pre-shows of the red carpet fashion.

It’s a relatively quiet week for me, what do you have going?

Another gloom, cloudy day! It started off with a slow, sleepy start. I like days like today where I can actually take the time to shave my legs in the shower. When my largest task of the day is separating laundry into whites and colors or checking on the chicken in the oven.

Bad lighting for photos and bad hair day, but what can you do? It’s the weekend and I'm not complaining!

The sun has been hiding! I don’t mind, I really enjoy scattered rain storms and clouds and chilly weather. I haven’t spent much time getting ready this week and that includes this morning. My time has been solely doing nothing but studying and coursework. But today was my last exam (finally!) and it’s officially the weekend! Victory dance. I plan to crawl into bed and never leave it until Monday morning!

Tell tale sign of my run and go outfit for today: my Oklahoma State long sleeve tee. Opps! It was my sleep shirt from last night. I had ten minutes to get onto campus so after hiding my hair with my head scarf and doing some quick make-up, I just pulled my coat over my tee and grabbed some boots. I don’t even quite match! But I figured I should take photos and post since I hadn’t much this week.

Cucumber face mask, DVR, and snacks here I come!

manage me, i'm a mess

Haha, am I looking a bit shabby? I actually wrote out a giant post whining about the day but after reading it, I deleted the entire thing! I doubt you want to read my rants. Basically it’s been a very, very long day of school and then a two hour research panel over bio fuels solutions (extra credit for a class). I haven’t really eaten at all today so I’m feeling foul and I have night of homework to look forward to. I promise I’ll stop being so grouchy once this week is over and done!

But I’m so pleased to be finally home! In comfy socks and my snuggie. I believe once Chris gets home, we’re going to the store to pick up a few foods to tide us until next month.

Well, off to actually do something productive now…

Booties, tights - ASOS, skirt, top, leg warmers - Forever 21

Ch-check ch-check ch-check it out, I actually straightened my hair! Can you see the tiny braid in my bangs? It was one of those mornings where I wasn’t feeling too great so I tried to put effort in my hair and dress nicely. I got this top over Christmas time (haul post here). It’s light material with capsleeves and a ribbon tie. I decided to tuck it into an old (poof-y) skirt but eep!, it looked like a lot of leg showing! That’s why I added the leg warmers over the tights.

Ugh, so this week is my exams week in uni. Meaning: two papers, one quiz, two exams, and my portfolio is due. To say the least I’m a little overstressed and overwhelmed. I hate that so many grade heavy things are packed into one small week! Give me some room to work!

Bad day, bad mood, goodnight!

Woven headband, vest, beaded top - Forever 21, tunic - Charlotte Russe, ring, earrings - old, top, leggings - gift from mom

What a good day! Spent last night in and watched a British film called Never Let Me Go. I can’t really make my mind up about what I think about it other than I found it to be peculiar. I've spent the morning listening to Pandora (my most used iPhone app) and studying. We've been keeping the back door open for the dogs to run in and out, but I think I smell some rain!

Can you see how far my bangs have grown out? I feel ridiculous if they aren't pinned back. I am actually all about hair accessories right now. I use to find them a bit overboard but now I find myself picking through my headband/hair pin collection.

Chris, for the most part, is a healthy eater/cook. While I on the other hand thrive on processed foods (terrible, I know!) In an effort cook healthier breakfasts, he has changed up his way of making eggs. He prepares them with no yoke, scrambled and bits of chopped ham thrown in. And hallelujah, I approve! I actually prefer this new way.

P.s. Don't forget the NBA All-Star game is on today!

about

My name is Alissa and I write this blog.
Contact me at: alissamburton@gmail.com

SCHOOL/WORK: I am a senior at Oklahoma State University, studying English. I do work part time in addition to being a student.

PHOTOS: I'm currently shooting with Nikon D3100, kindly a gift from my dad, and I love it. I am no professional when it comes to cameras, lens, etc. knowledge. I'm a beginner and still get weary about leaving the AUTO option! I've also previously used a Nikon D70 and a Nikon D90 via from my college's art department.
For editing, I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager and paint. Pretty basic. A common question is "who takes my pictures?" majority of the outfit photos are taken by my boyfriend or by using a tripod. All other photos are taken by me.

PLACES: I currently live in Oklahoma, this is where my dad grew up and wanted us to have roots here as well. I live not too far from the university I attend, in a tiny and overpriced home with my boyfriend and our dogs.

But I was born in Germany and lived there a short three years. Since both my parents were in the military, we moved around a bit, this includes: South Carolina, Italy, & Las Vegas. The list of places I've traveled would be just too long! My parents tried to keep us cultured by taking trips all over Europe and America.

THE GUY: Chris, he is my boyfriend. We actually attended the same high school and had mutual friends, but never officially met until January of 2009 and we began dating the following month. Our "how we first met" story is weird and honestly, a bit embarrassing! But the guy is definitely my match and we're always having fun together.

THE DOGS: Bane is a pit bull and he technically doesn't belong to me. Chris hand picked Bane when he was 6 weeks old from a litter and they were together six years before I came into the picture! But he's the biggest sweetie and is the only dog I've ever seen that enjoys getting baths. You tell him, "bath" and he'll run into the bathroom and jump in the tub himself! Then we have Ossie, who I rescued from the Humane Society, and he's a pug/chihuahua mix. Now he's the one with the fiery personality!

HAIR: No, it isn't my natural hair color. Every few months or so (more the so because I am such a procrastinator about making an appointment) I go the salon to get my roots touched up and get highlights.

As far as maintenance goes I try to shower every other day. I can't usually make it past day three without feeling like a grease ball. I tend to use lightweight shampoos and conditioners but I change up the brands often, but usually Paul Mitchell and Dove. I also once a week do a hair conditioning mask and shampoo with purple shampoo (to keep the color of white blonde in my hair from fading).

SHOPPING/CLOTHES: Since I’m student I don’t really have a huge budget for clothes. I don’t feel like I really shop at a wide variety of places, which is due to lack of funds too. But generally ASOS, Miss Selfridge, Forever 21, New Look, Threadsence, and UO. I obviously do like other shops, but those are all online and I skim their stock quite often.

I always make sure to list what & where I got the garments, accessories, etc I wear in  each of my outfit posts just below the photographs. I also like to do "wish to wear" posts to share certain sales going on or items that I've been eyeing lately.

Sunglasses, denim shorts - local, plaid shirt - Old Navy, Boots - New Look

Happy weekend everyone! I’m so pleased its here. I can finally take a much needed break and catch up on all my missed television shows and I can sleep in tomorrow morning! Too excited. But then it’s nose to the grindstone to study for an exam and to finish my art project/portfolio for Thursday.

This isn’t what I wore today, but yesterday for art class. Notice my very big and very important art bag/portfolio! Ha, kidding. I was in a lazy mood so I just wore my plaid shirt (as seen before here) and my denim shorts. The sun was out and the weather was in the mid-eighties! Haha, what a day winter day!

Today is my short day so I’m hoping after classes to take the dogs to the park since it’s so lovely out!

Moleskine shot - The doodle felt weather appropriate, but I actually don’t even like watermelons!

I’ve kind of had a lot of uni coursework on my plate since Monday. The days are just speeding by! I had two lectures and a lab to go to today and then I spent some extra time on campus to get a paper done! Hello productivity! I still have some late night catch up reading to do in order to be ready for Friday’s lessons. But since I have night class from 645-10 tomorrow I must do it all tonight!

This what I wore to uni today. The button down shirt is actually years and years old! I took photos of it for my old blog here and here. Same socks and boots too! How funny.

The weather has flip-flopped again from being 17 to 74. Oklahoma, I can’t keep up! Wind on a hot day is usually nice, but sometimes here it just gets out of control. Dust starts flying about! It gets in my eyes and my skin/face start feel grimy. (“I fear the wind!” anyone remember that quote from Disney channel’s Stepsister from Planet Weird? That’s how I feel. Hah, not hiding under cars or anything though!)

Look what came in the post today! Giddy is the only word that describes how I felt when I discovered this little care package and when I saw what was inside. Kinder eggs! (Aka only the best chocolate in the world that’s egg shaped and hides a clever toy inside.) We use to eat loads of them when my family lived in Italy.
Big love to my big brother who sent it!

wish to wear / asos

1, 2, 3, 4
Though I’m not ready and the weather certainly isn’t ready, stores are already dangling spring/summer looks! And I can’t help but be starting to think about what I want to be wearing when the weather finally warms up.
These are all from ASOS. I was actually very surprised to find myself to drawn to their maxi dress (number 3) because I’ve always steered away from full length dresses. I suppose I feel they aren’t very appealing for my body?

My favorite, by far, is the Motel dress with the chiffon top and white bow tie (number 4!). Sizes XS-M are already sold out! Sour face. I’m adoring the bow tie! The dress is just so sexy and fun. I’m keeping a look out for things similar.

*See previous wish to wear posts here!

let's stay home

Jumper - Forever 21, Skinnies, Boots - American Eagle

I’ve really been a bump on a log all weekend. I’ve just been going back and forth between my bed (where I’ve been doing all my coursework) and the couch (to watch television or watch Chris game). I was invited out on Saturday evening but I’m not big about going out to the bars/club. Truthfully, I’m not much of a casual drinker! A bit odd since my family owns a vineyard/winery, right?

I tugged out my jumper for today! Nothing fancy. This is the only cable knit jumper I have and wish I owned a few more. They’re so warm and cozy. Notice I finally wore jeans today rather than jeggings! Amazing. It’s been since November since I even opened my jean drawer. I’m expecting my sister to drop by sometime this afternoon so I thought I would get dressed.

On a quick side note, I saw the previews for Real World Las Vegas. It airs in March! Eee, can’t wait!

Lakers beat the Celtics and the Knicks this week! Happy, happy dance. Big games tomorrow, Lakers have a game against the Magic and the Heat play the Celtics. What a week for basketball, huh?

I’m spending today doing reading for uni (The Virginian by Owen Wister) and cleaning. I feel like I am such a messy dresser. Each morning when I pick through my clothes and decide against that top or sweater I just lay them over my dresser. By the end of the week it’s just a heap of clothes! I tend to keep the house neat but my dresser always slips. So that needs to be tidy and the floors need to be swept and mopped.

This is the first time I’m wearing my bodycon skirt. Hope it looks alright? I’m not too sure I like this outfit much. So much of the black and everything is just heavy. I don’t like how it photographed either. Bah! It’s so sloshy and muddy in the backyard we had to give the dogs a bath after being outside!

I miss the crunchy snow! Eee, how did Bane get mud all over his face?

send you my love

Chris and I don't typically do Valentine's Day, other than acknowledging it, since it's just a week behind our anniversary. But he's really made me feel treated this February! These babies where a part of his anniversary gift to me delivered by the postman just yesterday!

They are cheetah print flats with a scrunch back from Zigi Girl. It may look like a print but it's actually made from pony hair (eee, really?) I really like how the toe is flat looking like toe shoes for ballet. But sadly I'll have to wait til the snow and ice clear up before wearing them so I don't ruin the leather/suede!

you and your heart shouldn't feel so far apart

Cosmo March 2011, InStyle March 2011, Glamour March 2011

This is my Friday afternoon! Sitting at my colorful desk reading up on my new magazine stack. I love that Diane Kruger is the March cover for Glamour. I think she is stunning and her style is always a step ahead.

I feel like I’ve been on my toes since yesterday afternoon! I sat at my desk all afternoon trying to finish this social democratic globalization paper. It's done now, but it went along slow. Keeping up with uni has been a mess lately due to all the snow days and changed deadlines. It’d make it loads easier if more professors used their emails. Additionally, I have been waiting for a call back about my interview. The lady told me I would receive a call today if I got the job or not so I’ve been all nerves.

And in a small story, last night I was I transferring my drawing from newsprint to good paper for my art assignment, when I noticed my kneadable eraser was missing! Then I see Ossie sneakily hiding in the corner just chew chew chewing along! I'll be needing a new one of those (the eraser, not a dog)

 The thief himself, Ossie
